What to Expect

Two Weeks Continued Support Program
We Offer FREE “Continued Support Program” in conjunction to the TMS Therapy at NJ TMS Center. We at New Jersey TMS Center offer a unique complimentary “Two Weeks Continued Support Program” to our patients at the completion of their 30-session TMS therapy.

We believe it is important to provide continued support and education to our patients after the completion of the TMS therapy so they can stay healthy. And that’s why we offer this carefully designed two weeks program combining acupuncture, nutritional counseling, meditation and massage for free (valued at $785) to our patients who have successfully completed the TMS Therapy. Acupuncture has been especially effective in alleviating various pains, clearing emotional blockages and relieving stress and harmonizing the body, mind and spirit. And changing diet and lifestyle are also important steps patients can take to maintain a healthy mind.

Procedure
A NeuroStar TMS Therapy® treatment session is a short outpatient procedure that lasts about 37 minutes. During treatment, you can relax in the treatment chair. You can also speak with the system operator whenever necessary. After the procedure, you can immediately return to your normal routine, including driving.

Your first treatment session
Because your psychiatrist needs to determine how to most effectively administer treatment, your first session could last up to an hour and a half. You will be provided and asked to wear protective earplugs, as the system emits a tapping sound during operation.

Your psychiatrist will first perform a test to identify your motor threshold. The motor threshold is the amount of magnetic field strength that results in a movement of your right thumb. This test is important because it identifies the magnetic field strength that will be used in your treatment. This field strength is customized for each patient to deliver the correct treatment dose.

After this initial procedure, the doctor will determine the place on the head where the TMS treatment will be applied and the treatment coil will be moved to that location. This will allow you to receive optimal treatment.

The physician will then administer TMS Therapy® over a 40-minute period. In 30-second intervals, the device will deliver rapid “pulses” of the magnetic fields. These will feel like tapping on your scalp. Some patients may find this tapping uncomfortable. Your physician may be able to make adjustments to reduce this discomfort.

After the procedure
Immediately following each treatment session, you may return to your normal daily routine, including driving. During or after treatment you may experience headache or discomfort at the site of stimulation. These are common side effects which often improve as further treatment sessions are administered. If necessary, you can treat this discomfort with an over-the-counter analgesic. If these side effects persist, your doctor can temporarily reduce the strength of the magnetic field pulses being administered in order to make treatment more comfortable.

In clinical trials, most patients who benefited from NeuroStar TMS Therapy experienced results by the fourth week of treatment. Some patients may experience results in less time, while others may take longer. You should discuss your depression symptoms with your physician throughout the treatment course. If symptoms persist, you may want to consider other antidepressant options.

Patient Financing

There are two financing options available for patients who need loans for TMS Therapy.

Billing and Insurance

NeuroStar TMS Therapy may be covered on a case-by-case basis. Patients can work with our center and the NeuroStar Care Connection (NCC) program to seek case-by-case coverage. The NCC is staffed by trained case managers to help providers and patients with the reimbursement process. Neuronetics, the developer of the NeuroStar system, has developed this program to help patients secure coverage and reimbursement for NeuroStar TMS Therapy.

The NeuroStar Care Connection program is available to you as part of the cost of the system. This program is necessary because new therapies like NeuroStar TMS Therapy are often not included in health insurance plans when they first become available to patients. It usually takes time for health insurance plans to establish coverage policies for newly approved technologies such as NeuroStar TMS Therapy. The objective for NeuroStar Care Connection program staff is to assist you in gaining access to NeuroStar TMS Therapy as quickly as possible by assisting in securing coverage and reimbursement.

In the mean time, out-of-pocket payment for NeuroStar TMS Therapy is required. Here are some options that we offer for patients seeking treatment with our NeuroStar TMS Therapy System. These programs assist the patient to receive TMS therapy as soon as possible.
